For Funny
There’s a corner of my own poor heart,
A bittersweet memory of moments that flew so fast,
Man’s best friend in repose, at last.
You see — our dog left us six years past.
It was fun, our mutual co-existence,
Such enjoyable cavorts and the occasional disturbance,
So much love, love in such a sense,
Sometimes I’m so sad though I know its dense.
There was total comedy and involvement,
Such fun, joy, love absorbent,
Our most cherished and treasured endearment,
Its just painful to think of those events.
Now I look around, observe and see,
The multitude of so many dogs around me,
Strays, pets, mongrels and puppies,
All full of love and joy! But I’m unhappy!
YouTube videos, Hollywood movies,
My only remaining source of canine civvies,
Comical, touching, moving, silly.
Far, far more cute than even Free Willy.
<sigh>…
Funny was her name,
A black cocker spaniel,
White splash on her chest,
and love insatiable.
What can I say?
How can I tell?
So much to express,
So much to dwell.
On my dog’s grave,
What could I say?
“She gave everything she had everyday
And never took from us anything away,
From her heart, mind, and inmost soul,
From her personality’s essence and deepest core…”
<sigh>…
